Goodbye Fairfax Forever

The picture above is of Fairfax's music Journo, Simon Sweetman.

Fairfax is a media company in New Zealand, that owns a lot of our print media, magazines and news based websites. They are very powerful indeed, they basically control 80% of what we see and hear every day.

I am now through with them.

Over the past few years they have become very lazy and tabloid orientated to a point where I have to ask myself, why am I still reading their papers?

stuff.co.nz is the biggest website in New Zealand, and up until now I visited it daily, well not anymore.

It was basically two stories on their webpage that did it for me, one they are offering a Journalist scholarship to a Z Grade New Zealand celeb who blogs about her sexual experiences for them.

I have no problem with them offering people like that, a blog, but a Journalist scholarship??? Hundreds of young students of Journalism applied for this, and they are going to give it, to a attention seeking wanna be celeb???

Secondly, their reporting on the Kayne West incident, when they falsly accussed country fans of being racist, using every sterotype imaginable. It was appalling it was lazy reporting and it was false.

They were the incidents that put me over the edge, fairfax websites and newspapers are the lowest lowest form of Journalism, and I will not be apart of it.

Goodbye stuff.co.nz forever.

1) You've completely misrepresented what Simon Sweetman said in his BLOG. You're overly sensitive because you're a country music fan and you've completely misread what he said. "He" not "They". So you're being lazy and false right there buddy.

2)What Simon Sweetman says on his BLOG is his OPINION. Just like this BLOG is your opinion.

Nothing is being 'reported'.

It was not an article.

It was not written by a stuff journalist. It was written by Simon Sweetman who is a BLOGGER.

3) Every sterotype imaginable was not used.

So just to make it clear for you: You're offended by something you *think* Simon Sweetman said in his BLOG.

BLOG - a website where a user posts their opinion on various things that interest them.

A NEWS WEBSITE (like Stuff.co.nz) - a website that focuses on delivering news content to the public.

A NEWS WEBSITE can host BLOGS. Simon Sweetman has a BLOG. He is a BLOGGER. Understand?

I am amazed that people still get blogs confused with articles. How is it actually possible?

I do agree it's freakin' lame to offer that nutbar a scholarship though. And if you're quitting FFX for that reason - good stuff.

But you're waaaaaay off the mark on the Sweetman rant.

Hello, Thanks to replying to my blog.
I take your point about the difference between a blog and a actual news item, perhaps I was being over sensitive?
